The Sustainable Energy Fund provides support to Souderton Area School District and SAVE.
3/13/04 Souderton, Pa. - The Souderton Area School District held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new, environmentally friendly building on the grounds of a local elementary school. The building, dubbed "Connections", will be located next to the existing SAVE building.
SAVE (Students Against Violating the Earth) is a student run organization that has received national recognition for its activism on environmental issues. In addition, students within SAVE have done all the planning and design for both structures.
Like the first SAVE building, Connections with serve as an experimental lab, a classroom and as a meeting hall for Souderton School activities. Currently, Souderton High School students teach environment and energy fundamentals to first graders in the SAVE building.
The Sustainable Energy Fund has provided two separate grants to support to SAVE and to encourage their work. SAVE is responsible for financing and maintaining both buildings.
Ken Hamilton, the faculty sponsor of SAVE, has been instrumental in the founding of SAVE as well as developing environmental curriculum within the Souderton Area School District.
