Program Overview

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded an Environmental Education grant to Sustainable Energy Fund to help teachers and students learn about energy efficiency through the study of electricity and compact fluorescent light bulbs. Science teachers of middle and high school classes may download new lesson plans to teach students about the differences between compact fluorescent light bulbs and incandescent bulbs, and the benefits of using CFLs in their homes.

The curriculum unit “Investigating CFLs and Incandescent Bulbs” is aligned with PA’s Academic Standards for Environment and Ecology, and Science and Technology. Enrichment assignments are included. Students may even learn how to calculate energy savings in their own households.

SEF’s CFL Fundraising Program

To promote energy conservation through the use of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, SEF coordinates a fundraiser for school groups that is profitable and fun! Students can sell compact fluorescent light bulbs as alternatives to hoagie or candy sales, and contribute toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and helping the environment. After learning how to assess their energy and electricity use in their own homes, students are enthusiastic ambassadors to help their families save money.

The product is an Energy Star Qualified 13 watt CFL bulb with helpful information about energy generation, energy savings, recycling and disposal on the box.SEF will place orders on behalf of participating schools and will arrange to have the CFLs drop-shipped directly to the schools by the manufacturer. The cost is $2.50 per bulb with no additional tax or shipping charges. Each case contains 40 CFL bulbs. Orders must be placed in case lots (multiples of 40 bulbs). Sorry, we cannot ship split-case quantities.

Teachers- Club Advisors- PTO officers- Student Coordinators!

Use these on-line forms to sign up on behalf of your school, club, or youth organization. Start helping families save energy and money, while decreasing household greenhouse gas emissions.

Use the Fax Sheet to register your contact information at SEF. This also gives us an idea of when you plan to start your fundraiser so that SEF can estimate placing orders for shipping from the manufacturer to your group.

Use the Tally Sheet to record details of each student’s sales. Make copies for your records.

After your fundraiser is over, use the Group Order Form to calculate the number of bulbs sold, and your payment to SEF at the cost of $2.50 per bulb. Your school or group retains the balance of the funds raised. Please try to submit the Group Order Form and payment within two weeks after the fundraiser. CFLs will be shipped directly to the delivery address on the form by Autocell, Inc. Allow up to two weeks for delivery.
